Step into the past by climbing the 99 historical steps (actually 103 steps) built from the ballast bricks of ancient European ships. This short climb leads you to the base of Blackbeard’s Castle, one of the island’s three National Historic Landmarks.

1. Fungi

Fungi is a Caribbean staple made from ground cornmeal. Often served alongside a fish entree, this creamy dish can be similar to mashed potatoes or more like a corn cake. It’s a must try food when visiting St. Thomas!

2. Painkiller

Enter vacation mode with a sip of the Virgin Island’s signature drink. This tropical treat is traditionally made with cream of coconut, orange and pineapple juices, rum and garnished with fresh nutmeg. 

3. Kallaloo

Kallaloo is a widely known traditional soup throughout the Virgin Islands. The soup is a taste of the Caribbean with African roots and is made from leafy greens, okra, meat or fish and spices. Records of the origin of Kallaloo date back to 1696.

1. Cruise

St. Thomas is one of the most popular cruising port destinations. The area surrounding the port is full of shopping and restaurants.

2. Air Travel

Cyril E. King is the international airport in St. Thomas with many regularly scheduled flights to and from the U.S. mainland. As a territory of the U.S., passports are not needed when traveling to St. Thomas. However, if you venture to the nearby British Virgin Islands you will need to have your passport with you.
